The policy paper exposes the wastefulness and environmental dangers of wood pallets and packaging materials, highlighting the danger of invasive species which can decimate tree species when introduced via pallets arriving from other countries. The paper describes the numerous alternatives to pallets and calls for a complete phase out of solid wood packing material in the United States in order to protect North American forests.

The author, Ned Daly, is the Director of Forest Policy for the Consumer's Choice Council (CCC), a coalition of 65 environmental, labor and human rights organizations interested in consumer information, labeling and certification.
