About Us

Our mission is to protect natural forests through market-based conservation strategies, reducing wood consumption in the United States.

Wood demand reduction is an opportunity to create jobs, strengthen communities, and revitalize economies. It can be done by:

  • decreasing consumption
  • implementing reuse
  • improving efficiency
  • adopting alternatives
  • improving product durability and
  • increasing recycling.

RCA stems from a 1994 meeting of 43 activists and scientists in Tomales Bay, California. The meeting launched a new organization to advance wood reduction in the United States and generated the booklet, Cut Waste Not Trees.
